Safe Steps Cricket Match
23.08.11

A charity cricket match in aid of the NSPCC was hosted by Pathway Care Wales to mark the opening of a new facility for the Safe Steps programme in Gilfach Goch.
Safe Steps is a partnership between Pathway Care Fostering Agency and Marlowe Child and Family Services who manage residential homes. The Safe Steps programme works with young people who have either experienced a series of breakdowns in previous foster placements or those young people who have already ended up in residential care but want to move into a foster placement.
The programme is very successful in both helping the young people manage in a family setting but also in saving the Local Authority significant costs on long term residential placements.
Glamorgan cricketer Chris Ashling attended the event and both Pathway Care and Marlowe were hoping he would join their team but Chris remained impartial and chose to be a spectator following some coaching tips for both teams.
The game was very close but Marlowe just managed to win (according to their score!)
Judith Rees, Director for Wales for Pathway Care said “It was a great day out for everyone involved and we managed to raise some money for a worthy cause.”
